Bio

Carolin Bauer-Rilling has been Artistic Director of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra since October 2020 and leads the orchestra in its transformation processes in the areas of artistic development, participation and digitalization. She studied Empirical Cultural Studies, Musicology and Educational Science at the University of Tübingen and Nonprofit Governance & Leadership at the University of Basel and was supported as part of the German Cultural Council’s funding program for female executives in culture & media. A wide range of professional positions, including production management and directing, artistic management at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele or as lead project manager of the 62nd German Mozart Festival, demonstrate her extensive experience in the field of orchestra and cultural management. From 2013 to 2020, she was responsible for the development and implementation of various concert formats as well as the media and digitization strategy of the orchestra as a consultant to the artistic director and project manager of the Artistic Operations Office of the Tonhalle Society Zurich. From 2018 to 2020, Carolin Bauer-Rilling was an elected member of the Board of the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zurich as a staff representative.

A particular focus of her work is the area of transformation, for example as part of the pilot phase of KuLO, a training program for art and cultural institutions with a focus on audience development and agile working, or with her expertise as a “Transformation Manager Sustainable Culture”.
