Bio

Beat Fehlmann has been artistic director of the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz in Ludwigshafen since September 2018. Previously, the Swiss-born Beat Fehlmann held the directorship of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie in Konstanz, following positions with the Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden and the Philharmonia of Nations. Beat Fehlmann holds degrees in clarinet, conducting and composition as well as an Executive Master in Arts Administration from the University of Zurich. After assisting Heinz Holliger at the Collegium Novum Zurich, he began an intensive career as guest conductor of various orchestras and ensembles. He has received several awards for his compositional work and as a clarinettist he mainly pursued projects with an experimental character. For some years now, Beat Fehlmann has been concentrating on administrative activities, for which he trained at the University of Zurich, the German Graduate School and King’s College in London. Since 2020, he has also been teaching orchestra management at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. In 2022, he was awarded the Cultural Prize of the German Orchestras for his innovative work.
